In what has become an annual tradition, Lucasfilm animation guru Dave Filoni thanked fans for their birthday wishes by sharing another Dave Filoni exclusive sketch. Last year, he shared a Tolkien-inspired sketch of “Ahsoka the White” perched upon a clifftop, gazing out onto the horizon; in 2017, his cryptic sketch teased the return of Ahsoka Tano in Star Wars Rebels’ final season.
This year, Filoni’s birthday sketch depicts Ahsoka in an outfit reminiscent of her Rebels attire, head held high and brandishing two lit lightsabers, and reflects the current zeitgeist of the ongoing battle for civil rights and social justice. In his sketch, he made use of one of Ahsoka’s most emotive and character-defining quotes from The Clone Wars: “In my life, when you find people who need your help, you help them, no matter what.”
Thank you for all the Birthday wishes. As always, here is a drawing for all of you. May the Force be with you.… twitter.com/i/web/status/1…—

A few days earlier, Filoni had broken his social media silence to assure his followers that he was keeping abreast of current affairs and to show his support for the Black Lives Matter movement. His birthday sketch also included links to two of the United States’ leading civil rights organisations, the American Civil Liberties Union and the National Association for the Advancement of Coloured People.
Ahsoka Tano is the embodiment of social justice and any fan of hers should take the time to educate themselves on what is going on in the United States right now and think about how they can combat racism and other forms of injustice in their local communities. To learn more about the Black Lives Matter movement and how you can help in the fight against anti-black racism, head on over to the official Black Lives Matter site.
