Ahsoka Tano Unlikely to Appear in Soule’s ‘Darth Vader’ Comics

Will Snips make an appearance in the current run of Darth Vader comics? Unlikely.

If you’re waiting for Ahsoka Tano to show up in Charles Soule’s ongoing Star Wars: Darth Vader: Dark Lord of the Sith comic series, don’t hold your breath. Chances are that Snips will not be making an appearance anytime soon.

When Twitter user @Alvie77 asked Soule when he’d be incorporating Ahsoka Tano into his comic series, Soule replied “I’ll be honest – the way that Dave Filoni incorporated Ahsoka into Rebels makes me not want to ever put her in Vader. It was perfect, and anything I might do would lessen it”.

Some fans may be disappointed with Soule’s reply but, personally, I think it’s a wise move on the writer’s part. Ahsoka’s reappearance at the end of Star Wars Rebels’ first season was a milestone moment for the series and the audience had been led to believe that she and her former master had not crossed paths in well over a decade. Granted, Vader’s memories of his former apprentice were briefly touched upon in Paul S. Kemp’s novel, Lords of the Sith, but that’s about it. It’s only when Ahsoka reaches out through the Force in ‘Siege of Lothal’ that Vader got clear confirmation that his wayward Padawan had survived the purge.

Arguments can be made for and against the idea of bringing Ahsoka into the Vader comics but, frankly, I’d prefer to see Snips get her own comic series than see her dragged into Soule’s series just for the sake of fan service. After all, there are plenty of other fugitive Jedi for Vader and his team of Inquisitors to hunt down in the meantime, including Quinlan Vos and Luminara Unduli (whose tragic fate is hinted at in the first season of Rebels).

Futhermore, Ahsoka fans can already find several nods to the character and the events of E.K. Johnston’s novel in issues 6 and 7. In issue 6, we get our first glimpse of Sixth Brother, the ill-fated Inquisitor who tracks down – and is eventually killed by – Ahsoka in Johnston’s novel, and in issue 7, Ahsoka’s name can be seen on a list of “presumed Jedi survivors”.

And before we start panicking about inconsistencies in canon, Ahsoka and Rex may have faked their deaths in the novel but chances are that a) the news of their “deaths” hadn’t been reported back yet, b) the list hadn’t been updated yet or c) the Emperor found the scant evidence of their deaths vague and unconvincing and decided to keep Snips on the hit list.

Whatever the case may be and despite Ahsoka’s absence, Charles Soule’s series is a must-read for Vader fans and Star Wars Rebels fans alike.
