Ashley Eckstein Wears Stunning LEGO Dress at Her Universe Fashion Show
The perfect fusion of Lego, fashion, and pop culture fandom
The 3rd Annual Her Universe Fashion Show was held at the Manchester Grand Hyatt Hotel in San Diego on Thursday July 21st, 2016, as part of this year’s San Diego Comic Con festivities.
A total of 27 designers were selected to take part in this annual “geek couture” fashion show, which celebrates pop culture, fandom, and fangirls (and boys) of all shapes and sizes. The prize? The chance to work alongside Her Universe and design an exclusive fashion collection for leading pop culture retailer, Hot Topic.
Among the designs on display were ballgowns and other garments inspired by a wide range of fandoms, including the Harry Potter-inspired “I Solemnly Swear I’m Up to Couture” by Camille Falciola (which she based on the Marauder’s Map from the Potter films) and the eye-catching Imperator Furiosa-inspired “Oh What A Gown…What a Lovely Gown” by Hannah Kent.
Falciola and Kent are the first two lucky winners of this year’s contest. A third winner will be chosen by the audience at home on July 28th. It’s a tough choice as they’ve all put their heart and soul into their respective projects, but my vote would probably go to Lindsay Hamilton, the designer of this Captain Phasma-inspired gown.

But perhaps the most stunning dress of all was the one Ashley Eckstein was wearing. Based on this sketch by Dave Filoni, Ashley’s Ahsoka Tano dress was made from over 10,000 Lego bricks (weighing a total of 25 lbs) and was designed and created by Nathan Sawaya (the award-winning “Brick Artist”) and fashion designer Andrew MacLaine, the Audience Choice Winner of the 2014 Her Universe Fashion Show.
Ashley completed the look with a pair of orange heels and Ahsoka-inspired braids (complete with blue hair extensions). Major kudos go to Jen Blanchard of Opus Beauty for her outstanding work on Ashley’s hair and make-up!
